1110 - ESTABLISHMENT/ASSESSMENT OF COUNTY GOALS
One (1) of the major functions of the Board of Education is to work with the administration to establish written goals or objectives by which the County can accomplish its mission and to provide the resources necessary for their accomplishment. The goals or objectives shall be established before September 15th of each year.
In conjunction with its annual evaluation of the Superintendent and its own performance, the Board shall also provide the time for both the Board and the administration to assess the progress of the school system, during a given period of time, toward the achievement of current goals or objectives. The Superintendent's evaluation, the progress-assessment of goals or objectives and the Boardís self assessment of its performance, shall take place at a time of the year when the following conditions are most favorable to assure this policy operates as intended but no later than June 30th, except that the assessment shall be made prior to March 1st if the Superintendentís contract is to expire on the ensuing June 30th.
The Board uses this assessment/evaluation time period to assess the effectiveness of the Board as a whole as well as each Board member.
Summaries and synthesized data, compiled from the evaluation of the Superintendent, the Board's self-assessment, and the evaluation data on programs and staff, are available to serve as reference information when determining the reasons for progress and/or lack of progress toward the accomplishment of school system goals and objectives.
This annual process of assessing/evaluating the Board, the Superintendent, staff, programs, and resources shall not be considered finished until the Board develops and implements a plan to improve its own performance as the body charged with the responsibility for the governing of the school system.
