Administrative Guidelines
 

2440 - SUMMER SCHOOL

In accordance with Board policy, the District's summer school curriculum will consist of intervention programs for grades K-8, enrichment programs for grades K-8, and recreational programs.

 A.Eligibility
  Summer school is open to those who are residents of Hamtramck.

 B.Supervision
  In accordance with guidelines for summer schools established by the Department of Education which generally follow those required of regular school sessions, the Site Coordinator of the Summer School shall carry the same responsibilities as those generally accepted by the principal of the regular school session. S/He is responsible for the total operation of the school and should give particular attention to the quality of instruction and supervision of his/her staff.

 C.Assignments
  The assignment of subjects to a student in summer session shall be based on recommendations from the principal of the student's regular school.

 D.Course Offerings

  1.Courses to be offered in a summer school will be selected by the Superintendent on the advice of the principals and with the approval of the Board.

  2.The Superintendent, acting upon the recommendation of the principal, may discontinue any course for reasons of insufficient enrollment.

 E.Tuition/Fees

  1.All students shall be assessed tuition.

  2.Payment in full should be received before school starts.

 F.Operating Rules

  1.Instruction in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, or a foreign language may be provided at different grade levels concurrently in the same class if the class size does not exceed thirty (30) students.

  2.The amount of instructional time shall become part of the student's permanent record and shall be included whenever his/her record is transferred to another school.

  3.Guidance counselors will attempt to keep a narrative report of each student's attitude, strength and weaknesses. The final grades will be mailed to each student's parents at the conclusion of the summer session.

 G.Performance Responsibilities

  1.The Assistant Superintendent (for K-8) and the High School Principal (for 9-12) shall recommend all personnel, subject to the approval of the Superintendent.

  2.The Assistant Superintendent or High School Principal shall be responsible for obtaining equipment, supplies, and instructional materials.

  3.The Assistant Superintendent or High School Principal shall direct the activities of the professional and classified staff members in the performance of their responsibilities.
