5460 - GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

It shall be the policy of the School Board to acknowledge each student's successful completion of the instructional program appropriate to the achievement of Corporation goals and objectives as well as personal proficiency by the awarding of a diploma at fitting graduation ceremonies.

Students, beginning with the Class of 2010, can earn one of four diplomas:

 A.Indiana CORE 40 Diploma

 B.Indiana CORE 40 with Technical Honors Diploma

 C.Indiana CORE 40 with Academic Honors Diploma

 D.Franklin Central Honors Diploma

Requirements for Graduation for Indiana CORE 40 Diploma:

Students must earn a minimum of forty-three (43) credits and pass the ISTEP Graduation Qualifying Exam. The twenty-nine (29) required credits are:

 

English

8 credits

 

Mathematics

6 credits

 

Science

6 credits

 

Social Studies

6 credits

 

Health/Physical Education

3 credits

The fourteen (14) elective credits are selected from the total high school curriculum.

Diploma Requirements

Requirements for Graduation for Indiana CORE 40 with Technical Honors Diploma:

In addition to completing the requirements for the Indiana CORE 40 Diploma, student must:

 A.complete 8-10 hours in a career-technical program;

 B.earn a "C" or better in all required courses;

 C.have a 3.0 grade point average;

 D.complete two (2) of four (4) other criteria. (Please consult high school requirements for graduation for the specific criteria.)

A minimum of forty-seven (47) credit hours is required for graduation.

Requirements for Graduation for Indiana CORE 40 Academic Honors Diploma:

Students must complete a course of study and accumulate at least 47 credits in prescribed courses with a "B" (3.0) average. No grade lower than a "C-" may count toward the diploma. In addition, students must pass the End of Course Assessments.

Students must meet all the qualifications above and complete one of the following:

 A.two (2) Advanced Placement (AP) courses and their corresponding AP exams

 B.six (6) college credits in dual enrollment courses

 C.one (1) AP course and corresponding AP exam and three college credits in dual enrollment courses

 D.score 1200 on higher on the SAT (Critical reading and math sections)

 E.score of twenty-six (26) or higher on composite of the ACT

Requirements for Graduation for Franklin Central Honors Diploma:

In addition to the requirements necessary to earn the Indiana CORE 40 Academic Honors Diploma, students must earn a minimum of twelve credits in weighted courses.

Special Education Waiver:

The Board may award a certificate of completion to a student who is on a nondiploma track as determined by that student’s Individualized Education Program.

The Board shall award a high school equivalency certificate to any individual who meets the criteria established by State law.

Commencement exercises will include those students who are eligible for a diploma, or certificate of course completion as certified by the high school principal. No student who has completed the requirements for graduation shall be denied a diploma as a disciplinary measure. A student may be denied participation in the ceremony of graduation when personal conduct so warrants.

Note: Denying participation in commencement exercises to special education students who have completed their program violates 511-iac 7-27-9(b).
